Dealing with Tooth Discoloration

Teeth can become discolored for a variety of reasons. Teeth will pick up stains from your daily diet. Items such as red wine, coffee, tea, smoking, and dark sodas are particularly common. These stains can be addressed with cleanings and, in some cases, bleaching. Sometimes, teeth pick up stains while they are developing. In these cases, veneers or crowns may be necessary to complete a beautiful smile.

Tooth Bleaching

Tooth bleaching can be used to lighten the color of the teeth. The bleach does not harm or alter the structure of the tooth, but it can cause some transient temperature sensitivity in the teeth. Not all people are appropriate candidates for bleaching, and a complete examination and discussion will be necessary to determine if bleaching is right for your goals. Keep in mind that dental work does not bleach, so it may be necessary to replace old dental work if you decide to bleach anyway. Our bleaching system is one you can take home with you. You construct custom-fit trays for your use. The trays are worn for 30-60 minutes per session. Most people find that about 7 sessions are needed to achieve a color shift. Once you are happy with your result, we do encourage you to keep your trays so that you can always touch up your color in the future.
